Andrei Wiktorowitsch Schefer ( Russian Андрей Викторович Шефер ; born July 26, 1981 in Sverdlovsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who was last under contract with Severstal Tscherepowez in the Continental Hockey League until September 2016 .
Career
Andrei Schefer began his career as a hockey player in the junior division of Severstal Tscherepowez , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Super League in the 1998/99 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1999 in the second round as a total of 43 players by the Los Angeles Kings and spent the 1999/2000 season with the Halifax Mooseheads in the Canadian Junior League QMJHL . Due to the language barrier and personal problems, Schefer returned to his ex-club Severstal Tscherepowez for the 2000/01 season . After 20 games he was loaned to the SKA Saint Petersburg due to the lack of an ice age , where the Schefer, who was trained as a striker, was used as a defender for the first time. Shortly before the playoffs, he was ordered back to Severstal, but received few opportunities and played either in the third or fourth row or again as a defender. In the following season he was loaned again to the SKA Saint Petersburg, but returned to Cherepovets after 28 games. In the following four and a half years he played for his home club in the super league, but had to go on the ice in the second team at times or watch the games from the stands as a surplus player.
From 2006 to 2008 Schefer was under contract with the capital club HK CSKA Moscow , where he received significantly more Ice Age and significantly increased his points. Because of these performances, Schefer was again committed to the 2008/09 season by Severstal Tscherepowez. For his home club he was on the ice for the next four years in the newly formed Continental Hockey League . He returned to Moscow in May 2012 when he was signed by HK Spartak Moscow for two years . However, he did not fulfill the second year of the contract, but then played for HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk before returning to his home club in May 2014. There he was appointed team captain.
International
For Russia , Schefer took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 1999 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2001 .
