Andrei Wladimirowitsch Nikolski

Andrei Wladimirowitsch Nikolski ( Russian Андрей Владимирович Никольский , also transcribed Andrei Nikolsky ; * 1959 in Moscow ; † February 3, 1995 near Waterloo , Belgium) was a Russian pianist .

Career

Nikolsky took his first piano lessons at the age of five. In 1976 he began his studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory , where he was taught by Heinrich Neuhaus and Lew Naumow , among others . He also studied with Hans Leygraf at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

In 1979 Nikolsky won second prize at the Concours Long-Thibaud . In 1986 he received the Lilli-Lehmann Medal for his diploma examination in the subject “piano”, which he passed with distinction .

In 1987 he received first prize at the Concours Musical Reine Elisabeth . He became a Belgian national in 1988.

His repertoire focused on Prokofiev , Chopin and Liszt .

In 1995 Nikolsky died in a car accident near Waterloo in Belgium.
