Grand Duke Andrei Vladimirovich Romanov ( Russian Великий Heavy Draft Андрей Владимирович Романов ; born May 2 . Jul / 14. May  1879 greg. In Tsarskoye Selo , † the thirtieth October 1956 in Paris ) was a member of the House of Romanov-Holstein-Gottorp .

Life

Andrei was the fourth son of Grand Duke Wladimir Alexandrowitsch Romanow (1847-1909) and his wife Maria Pawlowna (1854-1920), daughter of the Mecklenburg Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II. And his first wife Princess Auguste Reuss zu Schleiz-Köstritz.

The family of the widowed Maria Pavlovna, aunt of the last Russian tsar Nicholas II , suffered the revolution in Kislovodsk in the Caucasus , where they were under house arrest in their summer residence. On February 13, 1920, she fled with her sons Boris , Andrei, and their lovers on board an Italian ship to Venice . His older brother, Kyrill Vladimirovich, emigrated with his wife Viktoria Fjodorovna and their two daughters Maria and Kira via a northern route to Finland .

In 1921 Andrei Vladimirovich Romanov married his long-time lover, a Russian ballerina, Matilda Felixovna Kschessinskaja (1872–1971). He also claimed to be the father of Mathilde's son, Wladimir Romanowsky-Krasinsky (1902–1974). Years ago, Mathilde had a love affair with Tsar Nicholas II and Sergei Mikhailovich Romanov .
