Andrej Mitrovic

Andrej Mitrović (born April 17, 1937 in Kragujevac ; † August 26, 2013 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav - Serbian historian .

Life

Mitrović studied history at the University of Belgrade and received his doctorate there. From 1980 he taught there as a full professor. Until his retirement he headed the Seminar for Modern History at the University of Belgrade. He lived in Belgrade. His main research interests were the history of the Balkans and Yugoslavia and their connections with the history of Europe.

From 1999 to 2002 he was Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German-Serbian Michael Zikic Foundation based in Bonn. During this time he was also a board member of the Zikic Foundation, and since 2005 he has been Honorary Chairman of the Foundation.

Awards

Mitrovic was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has been a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 1988 .
