Andrew Anthony Marchetti

Andrew Anthony Marchetti (* 1901 ; † 1970 ) was an American gynecologist and university professor .

Marchetti went to the Gynecological Clinic at Cornell University in 1943 and developed the cytodiagnostics of vaginal swabs in the laboratory of George Nicolas Papanicolaou with Herbert F. Traut . Together with Traut and Papanicolaou, he wrote the monograph The Epithelia of Woman's Reproductive Organs: a correlative study of cyclic changes in 1948 . In 1947 Marchetti was appointed professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the Medical School of Georgetown University . Together with Victor F. Marshall (1913–2001) and Kermit Edward Krantz (1923–2007), he developed a surgical method for the treatment of stress incontinence (Marshall-Marchetti-Krantz operation) in 1949 .
