Andrew Coats (* 20th century in Peru ) is an American animator .

Career

Andrew Coats was born in Peru . He attended the Tisch School of the Arts , where he met his future friend and work colleague Lou Hamou-Lhadj . Coats started out at Blue Sky Studios and joined Pixar in 2010 . At Blue Sky Studios he was the animator for the animations for the films Surviving Sid , Horton Hears a Who! , Rio and Ice Age 3 - The dinosaurs are on the loose . After moving to Pixar, he worked in the films Cars 2 and the two Oscar-winning films Merida - Legend of the Highlands and Everything is upside down .

Together with his colleague Lou Hamou-Lhadj, the short film Borrowed Time was created within five years without any support from their company Pixar . It was published free of charge on the Vimeo platform . For this short film, he received a nomination in the category of best animated short film at the 2017 Academy Awards . However, the award went to Alan Barillaro and Marc Sondheimer for their contribution to Piper .
