Andrew Hutchison

Andrew Sandford Hutchison (born 1938 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada .

biography

Hutchison was born in Toronto in 1938. He graduated from Upper Canada College and studied at York University and the University of Trinity College . He began his church career as a deacon at Christ Church Deer Park in the Diocese of Toronto. In 2004, Hutchison was elected Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada . He had previously been the Anglican Bishop of Montreal and was elected Archbishop in 2002. Hutchison supported the blessing of same-sex couples in his church . In 2005 he visited the Episcopal Church of Cuba as a primate and met Anglican theology students there.

Frederick James Hiltz succeeded him as Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada in 2007 after Hutchison announced his resignation.
