Andrew James Lock OAM (born December 26, 1961 ) is an Australian mountaineer . He is the first Australian and the 18th person ever to have managed to climb all eight-thousanders , i.e. all 14 mountains on earth with a height of over 8,000 meters . Lock needed a little more than 16 years for this: he stood on his first eight-thousand-meter peak, the K2 , on July 30, 1993. On May 24, 2000, he stood for the first time on Mount Everest , the highest mountain on earth. With the ascent of Shishapangma on October 2, 2009, he completed the eight-thousander list. He had only used additional bottled oxygen when climbing Mount Everest. He climbed this and Cho Oyu twice, so that he stood on an eight-thousander 16 times; In addition, he was twice on the central summit of Shishapangma, which is also over 8000 meters high.
