career

McNeil went to England in 2003 to play in the youth team at Southampton FC . A year later, the goalkeeper received a professional contract, but was only a substitute. When the club signed another young goalkeeper, Bartosz Białkowski, in January 2006 , he decided to leave the club.

In the summer of 2006, McNeil returned to his hometown and initially signed a one-year contract with Hibernian Edinburgh . But he knew how to convince the reserve team and was nominated for the Scottish U19 selection, with which he became vice European champion in 2006. Then his contract was extended and in January 2007 he ousted Zbigniew Małkowski from the goal of the professional team. At the beginning of the season, a new goalkeeper was signed with Yves Makabu-Makalambay , and McNeil moved back into the second tier. In the summer of 2009 he left the club and moved to FC Montrose in the Third Division . There he became a regular again, but ended the 2009/10 season with his team in last place.

In the summer of 2010 he joined the Raith Rovers . He played with his team in the 2010/11 season for promotion to the Scottish Premier League, but missed it. At the end of the season, his contract was terminated. He was hired by newly promoted Livingston FC , to whom he remained loyal for two years. He moved to Waikato FC in New Zealand in the summer of 2013 . After a year he returned to Scotland, where the Airdrieonians FC signed him in League One . A year later he was given the opportunity to play a league up for Alloa Athletic . After half a year, Greenock Morton was hired by league competitor .
