Andris Poga

Andris Poga (* 1980 in Riga ) is a Latvian conductor .

education

Andris Poga studied conducting at the Latvian Music Academy Jāzeps Vītols and philosophy at the State University of Latvia . From 2004 to 2005 he received conducting lessons from Uroš Lajovic at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts . As a student he attended master classes with Seiji Ozawa and Leif Segerstam .

Career

In 2010 Andris Poga won first prize at the “Yevgeny Swetlanow” International Conducting Competition in Montpellier. Andris Poga then became Paavo Järvi's assistant at the Orchester de Paris (2011–2013) and Assistant Conductor at the Boston Symphony Orchestra (2012–2014).

Since the beginning of the 2013/2014 season, Poga has been chief conductor of the Latvian National Orchestra in Riga. In autumn 2014 Poga stepped in for Lorin Maazel and Valeri Gergijew and took over the direction of their concerts with the Munich Philharmonic in Beijing and Taipei. The cooperation was so successful that Poga immediately received a re-invitation to subscription concerts for the Philharmonic in Munich. The orchestras that Poga has already conducted include the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester , the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Orchester de Paris , the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
