Economy and Infrastructure

In St. Veit today there is a kindergarten and an elementary school in addition to the parish church (with a parsonage, parish center and church host) . Except for two restaurants, the village economy has largely come to a standstill. In the local area there are still some farms with cattle breeding (especially horse breeding ) and arable farming (mainly for personal use). Most commercial and retail businesses have settled along St. Veiter Straße, which leads to Oberandritz, which is about a kilometer away.

To the public transport St. Veit is on the bus line  53 (leading to two kilometers away tram station in sub-Andritz and the main train station) connected.

The former post office 8046 Graz-St. Veit, which also supplied the entire Stattegg community , was closed on June 1, 2002. The zip code still exists.

Sights in the area

Via St. Veit you get to the Rannach in the popular local recreation area of the Grazer, on which there is also an alpine garden with many rare flowers, which was managed by the former St. Veit school director Josef Ebner, who for many years was also chairman of the Styrian horticultural association and the St Veit was founded. The Rielteich, a popular destination for walks with a small "nature adventure park", can be easily reached on foot via the Gabriachbach valley . A nine-hole golf course has been located on the southwestern edge of St. Veit since the mid-1990s .

Personalities

The most famous resident of St. Veits was probably the former Styrian governor Josef Krainer junior . A valued patron of the local elementary school in the 19th century was Josef Körösi , the founder of the nearby Andritz machine factory (now Andritz AG ). Another well-known personality of the place is Lois Steiner, who was the elementary school director in St. Veit and made a special contribution as a collector of Styrian folk songs. A short path in the center of the village was named after him. Even Sepp Tezak , 1923 born in Kapfenberg railway historian, -photographer and painters, is based in Graz St. Veit.

Culture

The St.Veit / Andritz / Stattegg music association founded in 1872 is an important cultural institution in this district. The music association not only tries to maintain the brass music culture, but also to lead young people to meaningful leisure activities. The MAZ (musical training center) installed in the brass music district of Graz, which works with various schools, serves this purpose.
