Androklos (son of Kodros)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Androklos ( Greek  Ἄνδροκλος ), the son of Kodros , is the builder and king of the city of Ephesus in Greek mythology .

After Kodros, King of Attica , was killed, there were throne disputes between his sons. The Eupatrids took the opportunity and ended the monarchy. Androclus left Attica with Ionic settlers and came to Ephesus . They drove out the native Karer , Leleg and Lydians . Since Androklos feared that the Samians would ally themselves with the Carians, he also conquered the opposite Samos and expelled Leogoros, son of Prokles, the king of Samos. After ten years, however, Leogoros was able to return.

When Carians took to the field against the city of Priene , Androklos came to their aid. The attack could be repulsed, but Androclus died and was buried in Ephesus. He was considered the city's founding hero.
