Andy Clarke (soccer player)

Andrew Weston Clarke (born July 22, 1967 in Islington ) is a retired English football player .

The striker began his career at FC Barnet , with whom he was promoted to the Fourth Division in 1991 . Clarke then moved to Wimbledon FC in the First Division (renamed the Premier League in 1992). The best placement he achieved with the club was sixth in the 1993/94 Premier League season . After seven years at Wimbledon, Clarke was loaned to the second division club Port Vale in 1998 . In 1999 he played at Northampton Town before moving to fourth division Peterborough United . In 2000 he made it to the Second Division with Peterborough . Clarke scored the winning goal in the decisive playoff game against Darlington in front of 33,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium . After a positive doping test in December 2001, however, he was banned for a month. In 2005, Clarke retired from Peterborough.
