Andy Vaz (* 1976 in Düsseldorf ) is a techno and house producer , DJ and label owner.

life and work

Andy Vaz was born and raised in Düsseldorf to a Swiss mother and an Indian father and now lives in Cologne. Andy Vaz has been running several record labels since 1998, and since 2001 he has been publishing his own music there and with other record companies. Between 2001 and 2006, nine maxis from Andy Vaz's minimal techno concept series "Sound Variation" were released, which is characterized by the principle of recycling experimental, electronic sounds with free jazz elements. "From anti-fiddly experiments to over-historical dance creations, Andy Vaz has explored every subgenre". In 2006 his debut album “Repetitive Moments Last Forever” was released: “You seldom experience such a rich ... minimalism. Sound structures freed from all boundaries ”. In the years that followed, Vaz devoted himself increasingly to deep house and released records on labels such as Delsin, Chiwax, Telegraph and Yore Records.

In addition to his work as a producer, Andy Vaz is on the road as a DJ and live act worldwide. In Japan, where he toured seven times since 2003, the CD "Live in Tokyo" was created, in Detroit, the birthplace of techno, the CD "Live in Detroit" was created. As part of a tour of the Goethe Institute , he performed in the largest cities in India in 2010. Andy Vaz has been mixing weekly DJ sets for his online radio show "House of Hope" since 2010.

As a label maker, he founded the record label Background Records in 1998, on which by 2006 50 releases by internationally known techno producers such as Akufen , Sutekh, Jan Jelinek , Terrence Dixon, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford , Stewart Walker , Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Portable, Frivolous and many more have appeared. In 1999 he founded the sub-label A Touch of Class for Deep House, which existed until 2008. From 2000 to 2002 minimal techno was also released on the short-lived sub-label Deep Night Essentials. Andy Vaz has been running the Yore Records label together with Italian DJ Alessandro Vaccaro since 2007, on which house by artists such as Rick Wade, Chez Damier, Patrice Scott and Alton Miller appears.
