Ángel Brunell (born February 2, 1945 in Tacuarembó ) is a former Uruguayan football player and coach.

Player career

Defensive player Brunell called "Pocho" began playing football at Club Wanderers in Tacuarembó. He then began his professional career in 1964 with Danubio FC , for whom he played in the Primera División until 1968 . He then moved to Nacional Montevideo in 1969 . He was a member of the Montevidean Association until 1972. In 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 he won the Uruguayan championship with the Bolsos . Nacional was also successful at the international level during this time and won the Copa Libertadores in 1971 . Brunell was not involved in the finals. In December 1971 he was part of the winning team of the Bolsos in the two games against Panathinaikos Athens for the World Cup . Brunell was in the starting line-up in both matches. In the two games against CD Cruz Azul in July 1972 and November 1972, in which Nacional the Copa Interamericana 1972 decided in his favor, he was also used in the starting line-up. From 1973 to 1975 he played for Fluminense Rio de Janeiro in Brazil . This was followed in 1976 by two positions in the Chilean Primera División at Everton de Viña del Mar and Colo-Colo . In 1980 he ended his career with CA Rentistas .

Coaching career

After his active career, Brunell worked as a coach. He began his coaching career at Rentistas. In 1981 he coached the Danubio FC team.
