Angela Christlieb

Angela Christlieb (born August 29, 1965 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , Bavaria ) is a German film director and video artist .

Life

From 1989 to 1996 she studied media art with Valie Export , experimental film with Heinz Emigholz and Elfi Mikesch at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin . In 1996 she finished her studies with a master's degree with Heinz Emigholz, with a focus on avant-garde film . From 1999 to 2000 she continued her studies at New School University in New York, among others with Alan Berliner . In 2002 her documentary Cinemania (co-directed with Stephen Kijak) was released, a film about people in New York whose lives are entirely dedicated to film. Since 2002 she has been working as a freelance camerawoman. a. for the New York artist Eve Sussman. In 2003 she was responsible for editing Andrew Horn's The Nomi Song , in 2004 for editing Monika Treut's Tigerwomen Grow Wings and in 2006 for editing Christoph Schlingensief's African Twintowers . In 2008 her documentary "Urville" was released. In February 2013 she was awarded the Heiner Carow Prize at the Berlinale and the Press Jury Award at the XXIII International Film Festival Message To Man for her documentary Naked Opera .

Her documentary Whatever Happened To Gelitin was released in 2016 . In 2019 her documentary Under The Underground and the short film Superunknown were released . Superunknown was awarded the prize for the best short film at the Bideodromo Festival. Under The Underground won the jury award for “Best Music Documentary” at the unhort-music-film-festival and the audience award at the Soundwatch Music Film Festival Berlin.
