Angela Kang (born March 23, 1976 in Irvine , California ) is an American television producer and screenwriter , who was best known internationally as the showrunner of the American television series The Walking Dead .

life and career

Angela Kang was born in 1976 in Irvine, California, as the daughter of Korean immigrants. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Comparative Literature and Theater from Occidental College in Los Angeles . In the meantime, she published short stories and poetry and then studied screenwriting at the University of Southern California with a Master of Fine Arts degree . She then received a follow-up grant, the Annenberg Graduation Fellowship .

She first worked as an intern for the ABC series Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice and later worked as a contributor to the NBC post-apocalyptic series Day One . In 2010 she wrote screenplays for the short-lived FX series Terriers , after previously writing screenplays for short films. In 2011 she switched to the second season of the renowned AMC end-time series The Walking Dead as story editor and author . Eventually Kang was promoted to producer for the third season (2012-2013), co-executive producer for the fifth season (2014-2015) and since the ninth season to showrunner of The Walking Dead in 2018, replacing her predecessor Scott Exit M. Gimple .
