Angelika Beranek (2014)

Angelika Beranek (* 1980 in Sonthofen ) is a German youth worker and media educator . She is primarily concerned with the effects of digitization on the theory and practice of social work .

Life

Beranek studied social pedagogy from 2000 to 2004 at Landshut University and Darmstadt University . In 2004 she completed her year of recognition with the city of Rüsselsheim . From 2005 to 2015 she worked in the media educational youth facility of the city of Neu-Isenburg, the Infocafe . She did her doctorate in 2013 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with Stefan Aufenanger on the topic of Safe in Communities: Analysis of the influences of an awareness-raising unit on online risks with special consideration of the peer to peer approach with a focus on online bullying prevention .

Together with Beate Kremser, Florian Borns, Gregory Grund and Jörg Schüler, she developed the mentoring program for online bullying prevention digital heroes.

Since 2015 she has been professor and dean of studies at the Munich University of Applied Sciences in the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences. There she represents the focus on media education and heads the local media laboratory. She is also the director of the master’s program “Applied Research in Social Work”.

She is a member of the Media Dependency Association of the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK), an associated member of the Frankfurt Technology Center Media and, together with Sebastian Ring, heads the Bavarian regional group of the GMK. Topics are computer games, social networks, cyberbullying, media addiction, education and gamification.
