Angelika Dopheide

Angelika Dopheide , née Erkens (born July 6, 1946 in Bielefeld ) is a German local politician ( SPD ). She was Lord Mayor of Bielefeld from 1994 to 1999 .

Life

Angelika Dopheide attended the Ursuline School in Bielefeld, where she completed her secondary school leaving certificate . After finishing school, she trained as a movement therapist and then worked at the Von Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten Bethel . She married in 1968 and had their first child with her husband in 1972. After giving birth, she left work to focus on family. They had their second child in 1974 and their husband died in 2002.

Dopheide joined the SPD in 1973 with her husband. In 1979 she was elected to the Schildesche district council, where she worked until she was elected to the city council in 1984. In 1986 she became chairwoman of the Social Committee and the Disability Advisory Council. From 1989 to 1994 she was mayor of the city of Bielefeld and also deputy parliamentary group leader. On November 10, 1994, she was elected the first full-time mayor of North Rhine-Westphalia by the city council of Bielefeld. With that she resigned from the city council. In 1999 she was the SPD's top candidate in the mayoral election, but was unable to assert herself against her predecessor Eberhard David and lost the election.
