Gerhard Bunnemann

Gerhard Bunnemann (born October 29, 1842 in Loccum near Hanover , † December 22, 1925 in Bielefeld ) was a Lord Mayor and honorary citizen of the city of Bielefeld.

Life

Gerhard Bunnemann was born in Loccum near Hanover in 1842 as the son of the local preacher Georg August Bunnemann (1798–1871) and his wife Wilhelmine Elisabeth born. Rühe (1808-1892) born. He comes from the old Bunnemann family in Oldenburg . After attending grammar school, he studied law in Heidelberg (where he was a member of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity ) and Göttingen , 1866 trainee lawyer, 1870 court assessor, 1873 salaried alderman in Elberfeld , 1875 mayor in Kreuznach , 1881 first mayor in Bielefeld, 1883-1910 mayor and appointment as a privy councilor . He represented the city as a member of the Westphalian Provincial Parliament and as a member of the Prussian mansion . During his tenure as Lord Mayor, the city of Bielefeld experienced a great economic boom and doubled its population. Bunnemann initiated numerous new buildings, such as the town hall, the city theater and the construction of various sanitary facilities. After two extensions of his term of office, he retired in 1910 and became an honorary citizen of the city of Bielefeld , where a street is named after him.
