Angelina Monti (born August 22, 1941 in Rimini ) is an Italian pop and jazz singer who became known in German-speaking countries with her songs in German.

Musical career

Angelina Monti grew up as the daughter of an orchestral violinist in Italy. After completing school, she received singing lessons and proved so talented that she was used as a background singer in her father's orchestra. During a tour of the orchestra in the mid-1950s, Süddeutsche Rundfunk became aware of the young singer and invited her to studio recordings. The Monti family took this as an opportunity to settle permanently in Germany.

Through the radio recordings, the record industry also found interest in the Italian. She was signed to the record company Telefunken and at the end of 1959 produced the first single with Angelina Monti with the titles Junge Liebe and Amigo mio . The A-side title Junge Liebe was a cover version of the unsuccessful song My Problem , sung by American country singer Barbara Allen. The interest in Monti's first single was correspondingly subdued. Telefunken also showed little intuition in the following recordings, on the second single they released the title We never want to go apart , which had no chance against the version with Heidi Brühl . By 1963, Telefunken had released a total of 15 singles with Angelina Monti, and none of the titles hit the German charts. In 1965 she published a single with Polydor and then switched to German Vogue , where she achieved her only notable success with the title Robertino . In the preliminary round of the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson 1965, the event A Song for Naples , she came in second place. A level of fame she reached in the late 1969 years, with the title song I Love You, Jo Walker , the film series Kommissar X . He also appeared on a single released by Ariola .

Although her recording career did not go optimally, Angelina Monti had the opportunity to make numerous public appearances, for example on the television programs Musik aus Studio B or Werner Müller's hit magazine as well as on orchestral tours with, among others, Kurt Edelhagen and Max Greger . It was also used in a number of cinema and television films.

She later received several weeks of engagements on cruise ships and a contract with an international hotel chain, which guaranteed her guest performances in Hong Kong and Singapore for months . Angelina Monti has her main residence in Wiesbaden , where she occasionally appears as a jazz singer. As a 70-year-old, she went on tour with the Roy Frank Orchestra in 2011.
