Angelina Pollak-Eltz

Angelina Pollak-Eltz (born April 24, 1932 in Vienna ; died July 1, 2016 there ) was an Austrian - Venezuelan anthropologist .

Life

Angelina Pollak-Eltz was born in Vienna in 1932. After attending school in Austria, she studied in the USA, Italy and Switzerland. She then moved to Venezuela, but continued to study ethnology and anthropology at the University of Vienna. She obtained her doctorate in 1964 with the dissertation African relics in the folk culture of Venezuela . Pollak-Eltz taught at the Universidad Católica André Bello (UCAB) in Caracas for thirty years . Since 2011 she has been living in Vienna again.

Her thematic focus was on anthropology, history, psychology, religion with Afro-American syncretism , umbanda , Pentecostal movement and the María Lionza cult , ethnomedicine , folk medicine and cultural history. She was u. a. Corresponding member of the Anthropological Society in Vienna .

Members of these so-called scriptless peoples are now also studying at the university and then doing a doctorate on their scriptless people. "
