Angelis Gatsos

Angelis Gatsos ( Greek Αγγελής Γάτσος , * 1771 in Sarakinovo, today Sarakini ; † 1839 in Chalkida ) was a Slavic-speaking Greek fellow commander during the Greek Revolution .

Gatsos came from the central Macedonian region of Almopia and played an important role in the Greek War of Independence, not only in Macedonia , but also in central Greece . At the age of 20 he joined the Klephten groups in Central Macedonia and played a leading role in the conquest of Naoussa from the Ottoman Empire in 1822. After the Ottoman army destroyed the city, he fled with Anastasios Karatasos to southern Greece, where he worked on many Fighting for Greek independence took part. In 1826 he went to Evia , where he formed his own combat group with which he took part in the battle of Atalandi in Boeotia . After the establishment of the Kingdom of Greece , he joined the Greek army and died with the rank of colonel  in Chalkida in 1839.
