Aridea ( Greek Αριδαία ( f. Sg. ), South Slavic S'botsko, Sabotsko, Subotsko ) is a small town that until 2010 formed an independent municipality in the Greek prefecture of Pella . In 2010 it was merged with the neighboring municipality of Exaplatanos to form the new municipality of Almopia , in which Aridea has since formed a municipality.

Aridea is located in the northwest of the Pella Regional District, on the border with the Republic of Macedonia and the Florina Prefecture Regional District . With an area of 562.91 km² it was the eighth largest municipality in Greece until 2010. In addition to the district of Aridea (5600 inhabitants), the localities Promachi (1825 inhabitants), Sosándra (1206 inhabitants), Apsalos (1178 inhabitants), Loutraki (1163 inhabitants), Polykarpi (1071 inhabitants), Tsakoi (1020 inhabitants), Vorino belong (871 inhabitants) and Xifiani (850 inhabitants) to the municipality.

Under the name Soumboskon (Gr. Σούμποσκον) the place was recognized in 1918 as a rural community (kinotita) . In 1922 it was renamed Ardea (Αρδέα). In 1946 it was elevated to a municipality (dimos) and renamed Aridea in 1952. In 1997 Aridea was considerably enlarged by the incorporation of numerous surrounding villages.
