Exaplatanos ( Greek Εξαπλάτανος ( m. Sg. )) Is a small town that was an independent municipality in the Greek prefecture of Pella until 2010 . In 2010 it was merged with the neighboring municipality of Aridea to form the new municipality of Almopia , in which Exaplatanos has since formed a municipality.

Exaplatanos is delimited from the territory of Macedonia in the north by the Voras massif . The highest peaks in the area of the municipality are the Tzena ( Greek Τζένα , 2182 m) and northwest of the Pinovo ( Greek Πίνοβο , 2154 m). In the east, the Paiko ( Greek Πάικο ) , which is up to 1400 m high, separates Exaplatanos from the communities of Peonia . With the south-western area, the municipality shares in the eastern basin of Almopia, which is formed by the Moglenitsas river and its tributaries. The Moglenitsas forms the border with the municipality of Aridea to the west, and the municipalities of Skydra and Pella to the south .

The place was recognized in 1918 under the name Kapiniani (gr. Καπίνιανη) as a rural community (kinotita) and renamed Exaplatanos in 1922. In 1997 Exaplatanos was raised to the status of a municipality (dimos) and considerably enlarged by the incorporation of numerous surrounding villages.

The place is known for its agricultural products and livestock. The town of Archangelos also belongs to the municipality .
