Angelo Maria Bandini

Angelo Maria Bandini (born September 25, 1726 in Florence , † August 10, 1803 in Fiesole ) was an Italian author, librarian and canon . He was a passionate collector of books and the author of numerous publications as well as a member of many academies and librarian of the Biblioteca Marucelliana and later the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence.

He lived in Florence until 1795, after which he bought a property on the hill of Fiesole, which he restored and set up his own museum. In 1803 he died in his estate.

He left his collection to the Bishop of Fiesole. He built up the collection with the intention of documenting the history of Florentine and Tuscan painting in its main features during the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance . In 1913, a new museum was designed (which was subsequently built) near the Roman theater.

Bandini's work Collectio veterum aliquot monumentorum ad historiam praecipue Litterariam pertinentiam was placed on the index of forbidden books in 1753 .
