Angelspit is an Australian band.

Band history

Angelspit was founded in 2004 by DestroyX (Amelia Tan) and Zoog (Karl Learmont). In the same year the EP Nurse Grenade was released. In addition to seven own songs, this contained three remixes of songs by other bands. In 2006 the first studio album Krankhaus was released . The first single was Vena Cava for which a music video was shot. Only one year later Angelspit released a remix CD called Surgically Atoned with remixes from bands like Combichrist or The Tenth Stage. However, this CD was only available to a limited extent through its own internet shop. On June 11th, 2008, the second studio album Blood Death Ivory was released after a year of work in Berlin and Sydney . As with the previous album, DestroyX had adopted the design. In contrast to Krankhaus, this one contained harder elements of metal and techno . The band concentrated on making the album harder and more innovative, but not as organic as its predecessor. For the release of the second remix CD Black Kingdom Red Kingdom , Angelspit launched a remix competition that was based on both the graphic elements and the music. This resulted in an unofficial remix album that Angelspit offered for free download. The official remix CD contained remixes by KMFDM , Ayria and other bands. With this CD four posters were delivered, which were supposed to represent a graphic remix of Blood Death Ivory. The CD was available in their own online shop or in Germany from InfraRot.

In the same year the release of the third studio album Hideous and Perfect was announced. The album was released on September 9, 2009 as a second CD on Angelspit's own label Black Pill Red Pill . Black Kingdom Red Kingdom had previously been released under this label. According to his own statement, the label was founded in order to get more creative freedom. The band's second music video, Fuck the Revolution , was released with Hideous and Perfect . This was produced by friends and fellow students of Destroy. In the course of the video shoot, the artwork was also created, which particularly stands out due to Destroy's extravagant make-up. The album was produced in three versions (for Australia and Europe, for America and for Japan). In addition to the inlay, the German version contained a poster with the artwork and the texts on the back. Once released, Angelspit toured the US with KMFDM , moving from Sydney to New York . On October 10, 2010, Hideous and Perfect's new remix CD, Larva Pupa Tank Coffin, was released, with remixes by, for example, Dave Foreman and new songs. In March 2011 the second remix CD, Carbon Beauty, was released.

Angelpit announced the addition of three more band members on April 15, 2011: guitarist Valerie Gentile ( Black Tape for a Blue Girl , The Crüxshadows ), drummer Chris Kling ( Hanzel and Gretyl , Mortiis ) and The Liar, who was the new one after a competition Video editor is selected. With this new line-up, the fourth studio album Hello My Name Is was released in October 2011 . On November 9th, 2011 it was announced that Matt James, former live drummer on the “Let Them Eat Distortion” European tour and the “All the Rage” US tour, would replace Chris Kling as a permanent member of the band.

On January 24th, 2012 the official score of Underworld: Awakening was released, which contains the song Sunrise by Angelspit, recorded exclusively for the film . Soon after, the Defibrillator Remix Competition took place from February 6th to February 27th, 2012 . After almost 100 remixes had been received, Angelspit decided on March 16 to make the ten best songs available as a Sweet Chemical Boy Remix album for free download. A release on CD is still pending.

In September 2019 the album Bang Operative was released , which was financed by a crowdfunding campaign.
