features

The Angola bar is 5 to 7 cm long and has a typical, elongated, laterally flattened shape. Females are much stronger, males slimmer. Their back is brownish to gray-green, the sides of the body are orange to reddish and patterned with 12 to 16 narrow, dark horizontal stripes. The specific epithet fasciolatus means “finely striped”. The third and the last may be widened to a spot. The belly is whitish, the fins are yellowish, the dorsal fin has a carmine-red spot. Young females are often ink red. The caudal fin is forked. Your sideline is complete. The Angola barb has two pairs of barbels of equal length .

Way of life

It lives in oxygen-rich, well-vegetated waters and is shy. Their main activity time is early morning and late afternoon. The Angola barb feeds on worms, crustaceans, insects, and plant matter. When spawning, the females give off 150 to 200 eggs. The fry hatch after about 50 hours, depending on the temperature, swim freely after another 3 to 4 days and can be fully grown after 6 months.
