Background information

Attack of the giant spider is one of the best-known examples in the trash film category . You can see at any time that the giant spider from which the title is given is not real. In order to let the animal “crawl” through the landscapes, the spider figure was simply stretched onto a VW Beetle , and in some scenes you can even see the tires of the vehicle under the “spider”. In order to simulate a crawling movement, crew members who were sitting in the car merely moved the legs of the giant spider up and down. This film is a little reminiscent of the works of the famous cheap director Ed Wood .

Reviews

  • "A nonsense beyond compare" - Lexicon of Science Fiction Films -
  • "In addition to the amateurish achievements of the actors, who must be just as stupid as their film roles, the cheap cobbled together tricks are especially worth mentioning (...)" Frank Trebbin, - Fear sits next to you -
  • "The viewer has to wait until shortly before the end for the eponymous top spider, but then the bumbling and enthusiastically staged final catastrophe at least compensates for confessed trash gourmets." - Hell on Earth -
  • "Rather an attack on the diaphragm because of the immature film tricks" - TV feature film -

“'The Giant Spider Invasion' ('The Giant Spider Invasion', USA 1975) was the name of the piece and was committed by a completely stranger named Billie Rebane, who took his unknown and untalented actors, but above all the unsuspecting audience, into one Journey of horror sent. A colleague certified this film as hatefully as it was true that it was neither a B nor a C film, but simply a Z film. "

Others

Because of the cheap and poor design of the film, it became a coveted collector's item among many fans of the trash film genre. The original version has now been released on DVD , while the German version from 1984 has so far only been released on VHS .
