Anick Jesdanun

Anick "Nick" Jesdanun (born March 16, 1969 in Pittsburgh , † April 2, 2020 in New York City ) was an American journalist . He was the Associated Press section director for tech journalism .

Life

Anick Jesdanun's parents immigrated to the USA from Thailand before he was born . He was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in New Jersey . In 1991 he graduated from Swarthmore College with a bachelor's degree . Shortly thereafter, he began working for the Associated Press news and press agency, which he stayed with throughout his professional life. He worked in Philadelphia , Harrisburg, and Washington, DC locations before moving to New York City. There he became the first journalist who dealt exclusively with the Internet. He later became head of the technology department.

On April 2, 2020, Jesdanun died at the age of 51 during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. He had no previous illnesses and was a passionate marathon runner: After his first participation in the New York City Marathon in 2002, he ran a total of 83 marathons worldwide in 18 years, 15 of them in New York.
