Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer ( Japanese ど う ぶ つ の 森 : ハ ッ ピ ー ホ ー ム デ ザ イ ナ ー , Dōbutsu no Mori: Happī Hōmu Dezainā ) is an open-world game developed by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS . It was released in Japan on July 30, 2015, in North America on September 25, and in Europe on October 2, 2015 .

The game is a spin-off of the Animal Crossing series. In contrast to the main series, the player can design the houses from animal figures.

development

A new Animal Crossing game was hinted at on October 29, 2014 when producer Katsuya Eguchi said they are still making decisions about what to do next on the series. On April 1, 2015, Nintendo announced the next Animal Crossing game called Happy Home Designer at a Nintendo Direct edition .

Gameplay

In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer , the player is an employee of real estate agent Tom Nook. The task is to design the houses of the animal figures known from the Animal Crossing series according to their wishes. The player is supported by Tom Nook, the chairman of the Academy of the Beautiful House (AdsH), Fred, his niece Karlotta and Moritz.

The residents and furniture inventory have not changed from Animal Crossing: New Leaf . Another new feature is that pieces of furniture can now not only be placed inside the houses, but also in the residents' front gardens.

There is also the option of customizing the shopping mile known from Animal Crossing: New Leaf . Among other things, it is possible to design a school, a supermarket and a hospital.

Amiibo

At the start of sales of the game, Amiibo cards will be available in stores that can be linked to the game. The cards are recognized directly by the New Nintendo 3DS (XL), while the Nintendo 3DS (XL) and Nintendo 2DS require a Nintendo 3DS NFC reader to read them. With the amiibo cards you can set up the house of the character shown. There are also special amiibo cards that depict characters whose houses cannot be designed in the normal course of the game. It is also possible to save certain furniture on the cards and transfer them to another 3DS device. Once a resident's house has been furnished, there is the option of inviting other animal figures into the house using amiibo cards.

There will be a total of 400 Animal Crossing Amiibo cards, and these will appear in different series. The first series will contain 100 cards. A special amiibo card is included with every game at the start of sales. Amiibo cards are sold in packs of three, which always contain two regular cards and one special card. All cards work on several game copies, so that there is also the possibility of collecting and swapping.

The resident's amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection unlocks a golden statue.

Special packages

At the start of sales of the game, in addition to the regular version, special packages will be offered that always contain a special amiibo card.

The New Nintendo 3DS + Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Pack contains 4GB of a white New Nintendo 3DS, a 4GB microSD card and a set of design covers, which are not available separately in Europe. The game is preinstalled on the device.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Edition consists of a white New Nintendo 3DS XL with a special look and a 4GB microSD card. The game is also preinstalled here.

The Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer + NFC Reader / Writer Pack contains the game as well as a random Amiibo card and NFC reader / writer which is required to use the Amiibo on the Nintendo 3DS (XL) or 2DS. To read cards. The NFC reader / writer is also available separately from retailers.

The Happy Home Designer Package is due to appear on March 18, which will include an amiibo figure of Melinda in summer outfit in addition to the game.

Photos with Animal Crossing

From August 10 to 30, 2015, Nintendo organized an advertising campaign for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer in cooperation with McDonald’s . During the campaign period, a special AR card was available each week in all participating restaurants in the chain. In addition, the player was able to secure a download code for the Photos with Animal Crossing software via the Nintendo Zone .

With the software and a corresponding AR card, animal figures from the series could be projected onto the screen of the Nintendo 3DS family system and viewed in front of a real environment captured by the 3DS camera.

Even before the start of the promotional period, the first of the three AR cards and the download code for the game were available exclusively at Gamescom 2015.
