Anita Marie Pointer (born January 23, 1948 in Oakland ) is an American singer .

Career

Anita is one of four sisters of the American pop and soul group The Pointer Sisters . The daughter of the preacher Elton Pointer and Sarah Pointer learned the alto saxophone and was a member of the McRae High School Band. She sang in the gospel choir in her father's parish. In 1969 she quit her job as a secretary and started the singing group The Pointer Sisters with her sisters June , Bonnie and Ruth . Pointer has been an active member of the group since 1969.

Pointer has a daughter and has been married several times.
