Anna-Dorothee von den Brincken

Anna-Dorothee von den Brincken (born December 23, 1932 in Essen ) is a German historian and professor emeritus for medieval history at the University of Cologne .

Her parents were the mine director Wilhelm von den Brincken (1883–1949) and his wife Anna-Dorothee (1901–1984), the daughter of the mining official and entrepreneur Otto von Velsen (1869–1945).

Von den Brincken studied history and theology at the Universities of Münster and Munich and received his doctorate in 1956 under Herbert Grundmann with studies on Latin world chronology. After that she first went to the archives service and in 1961 she became archivist in Münster. In 1963 she came to the Cologne City Archives as an archivist . In 1972 she became a university lecturer. In 1973 she was habilitated at the University of Cologne with her monograph on the representation of Eastern Christians in literature and historiography of the Middle Ages and was thus an extraordinary professor. From the Brincken's area of ​​research are the historical auxiliary sciences , especially cartography , chronology and universal historiography of the Middle Ages. Her source editions from the holdings of the Cologne archive should also be mentioned.

Since 1998 she has been an external member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .
