Life

Training and first appearances

Anna El-Khashem's parents, the Lebanon-born father and the Russian mother, are both doctors and have supported her childhood goal of pursuing a career as a musician. During her school days she sang in the choir of a music school and was accepted at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory at the age of 17. There she studied with Svetlana Gorenkova and took part in master classes with Elena Obraztsova , Larisa Gergieva, Brigitte Fassbaender , Anna Tomowa-Sintow , Edith Wiens and Natalie Dessay .

At the Bregenz Festival in July 2016, she performed as a soprano soloist in the opening service broadcast on the radio and as Bastienne in a concert performance of Bastien and Bastienne , which the evening before commemorated the foundation of the Festival 70 years ago.

Development as an opera singer

From the 2016/2017 season to 2018/2019 season, she was a member of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera, participated in its annual productions and completed her studies in St. Petersburg during this time. She became known to the audience of the Bavarian State Opera in January 2017 as Xenia in Boris Godunow . At the premieres of the new productions of Oberon , Le nozze di Figaro , Ilertrico and The Bartered Bride , which were also streamed as video streams on staatsoper.tv , she was involved in middle roles. Further attention, which also led to the award as Young Artist of the Year by the magazine Opernwelt, found her in the production "Show me your miracles" as part of the festival workshop in June 2018, which with her in the title role in Nicolai Rimski-Korsakow's opera Snow Maiden was based. Since the 2019/2020 season she has been a member of the ensemble at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden , made her house and role debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte there in September 2019 and was soprano soloist in a staged performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion from January 2020 .
