Anna Geis

Anna Geis (* 1971 ) is a German political scientist and university professor for political science at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg.

Career

After studying political science, modern history and German at the TU Darmstadt and the University of Warwick , Geis worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Hamburg from 1999 to 2002 . In 2002, with a dissertation on the participation process for the future development of Frankfurt Airport with Michael Th. Greven at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg, she was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. She then worked as a research assistant and project manager at the Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research (PRIF) in Frankfurt am Main until 2009 , where, together with Harald Müller, she led a DFG- funded research project on the participation of democratic states in war. From the 2007 winter semester onwards, she took on substitute professorships for political science for three years at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and in the 2010 winter semester at the  Geschwister-Scholl-Institut of  the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

From 2009 to 2012 she did research as a research assistant in the Cluster of Excellence “Formation of Normative Orders” at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main (International Organizations Division). In the summer semester 2011 she spent a research stay at the  Hamburg Institute for Social Research . In 2012 she qualified as a professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, after which she accepted a professorship for political science with a special focus on international relations at the Institute for Political Science at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg . After four years in Magdeburg, she accepted an appointment at the Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg in 2016, where she has held the Chair of Political Science ever since.
