Anna Maxwell Martin

Anna Maxwell Martin (born May 10, 1977 in Beverley , England ) is a British actress . She is best known for her roles as Esther Summerson in the BBC - film adaptation of Charles Dickens -Klassiker Bleak House (2005) and as Bessy Higgins in North & South (2004) after the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell .

Life

She first studied history (with an emphasis on World War I) at Liverpool University . Upon graduation, Maxwell Martin began her acting studies at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

She was nominated for the prestigious British theater prize Olivier Award for her role in a theater adaptation of the novel trilogy His Dark Materials . Maxwell Martin was awarded the BAFTA for Best Actress in 2006 for the role of Esther Summerson in Bleak House . She was also nominated for the 2006 Broadcasting Press Guild Awards for her role in Bleak House .

From mid-July 2008 Maxwell Martin was directed by Roger Michell in The Female of the Species at the Vaudeville Theater on the West End in London on stage.

Maxwell Martin has a relationship with director Roger Michell .
