She is almost raped and when she comes home she is beaten up by her husband because he thinks she is having an affair. Meanwhile, Susan contacts Mr. Cavendish, a former senior officer and associate at Bletchley Park. Susan visits Crowley's former psychiatrist at his hospital. However, this has moved and the psychiatrist has retired. The man who opens the door introduces himself as the administrator. He wants to help her and lets her in to check the old files. During their conversation, Susan suspects that the steward might be Crowley and she flees. When she comes back with the police, Crowley is gone. Susan and her friends set out to find him by examining his past life and creating a psychological profile. When they tighten the noose, they put themselves in great danger, but Crowley is shot by Millie before he can detonate a hand grenade. |

Alice Merren, a former Bletchley Park employee at the "Engine House", is awaiting trial in prison for the murder of scientist John Richards. However, despite overwhelming evidence, Jean believes in Alice's innocence and asks the rest of the "Bletchley Circle" to help clear the case. Her investigation reveals the misguided reason Alice is willing to accept the death penalty by hanging for a crime she did not commit. The women believe that Richards had an affair with an Elizabeth Lancaster. She would probably have stolen from him and killed him too. However, faced with the facts, Alice still refuses to testify. During the further investigation it turns out that Lizzi (Elizabeth) is Alice and John's daughter and Alice wants to cover them. A murder attempt is carried out on Lizzi. It turns out that she is the victim of a conspiracy.

The women are able to uncover Lancaster's true identity, but a race against time begins to save Alice from the gallows with a revision. However, as the investigation continues, they uncover an even more sinister conspiracy. The German poison gas sarin fell into the hands of the British military during the war. A science unit under Professor Masters tested it on soldiers. While Susan tries to contact the victims in the hospital, the three others go to Professor Masters, not knowing that he is still active. Masters accuses the women of espionage and shoots Jean. The caught Susan can convince the officer in charge that a crime has occurred. He sends soldiers to arrest Masters, thereby saving the three women.

Martha, the head of the clan, confronts Millie and Jasper, Millie's contact person, with a demand to settle their debts. Jasper takes the blame and Millie is released with the assignment to work directly with the clan from now on. In the contraband warehouse, the four women (Susan is in Bombay) find Jasper's body.

A police search of the camp remained unsuccessful. This makes it clear to the women that the clan has informants with the police and that they have to take action themselves. Millie introduces Jean as a major customer to Martha, where Lucy manages to take a look at Martha's order book. Due to her photographic memory, she can reproduce the Enigma codes noted there. From this they can decipher the date and place of the next delivery of goods and give customs officials a tip through a police officer who is in love with Lucy so that the whole gang can be arrested. |
