Anna Mitgutsch
Anna Mitgutsch (born October 2, 1948 in Linz ) is an Austrian literary scholar and writer.
Life
Anna Mitgutsch studied English and German at the University of Salzburg . She made numerous trips to Southeast Asia and the Middle East, lived for a long time in Israel, and taught from 1971 to 1973 at the British universities of Hull University and University of East Anglia. In 1974 she did her doctorate at the University of Salzburg with a dissertation on English poetry of the sixties. From 1975 to 1978 she was a research assistant at the Institute for American Studies at the University of Innsbruck. In 1978/1979 she was visiting professor of English literature at Ewha Women's University in Seoul and from 1979 to 1985 she taught German and German at Amherst College in Massachusetts, Sarah Lawrence College in New York, Tufts University and Simmons College in Boston Literature. In the 1990s she was writer-in-residence at Oberlin College (Ohio), Lafayette College, and Allegheny College (Pennsylvania). She lives as a freelance writer in Linz with several long stays in the USA.
Awards
Mitgutsch, who is a member of the Graz Authors' Assembly and Vice President of the IG Authors Authors and who was a member of the PEN Club Austria until she left the Austrian PEN Club in 2000, received the following awards:

- 1986: Culture Prize of the Province of Upper Austria
- 1992: Anton Wildgans Prize
- 1996: Austrian Prize for Literature
- 2000: Austrian Prize for Literature
- 2002: Solothurn Literature Prize
- 2004: Art Prize of the City of Linz
- 2007: Heinrich Gleißner Prize
- 2015: Awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Salzburg .
- 2016: Awarded the Johann Beer Literature Prize for her novel Die Approach .
- 2019: Grand Culture Prize of the Province of Upper Austria ( Adalbert Stifter Prize )
