Anne DR Sheppard

Anne Deborah Raphael Sheppard , née Anne DD Raphael (born November 10, 1951 ) is a British classical philologist and historian of philosophy (specialist in Neoplatonism ).

Sheppard studied Classical Philology and Philosophy at St Anne's College , Oxford . In 1976 she received her doctorate with a thesis on the literary theory of the Neo-Platonist Proklos for DPhil . She then taught philosophy at Oxford, classics at Durham University and philosophy at the Open University . In 1989 she came to the Royal Holloway College , London , whose Department of Classics she now heads.

Sheppard's main interest is the connection between philosophy and literature, especially in Neoplatonism. However, she has also worked on ancient and modern aesthetics . Recently, she has the ancient concept of Phantasia ( imagination , imagination facing). Further work concerns other aspects of ancient philosophy such as philosophical psychology and the ancient philosophy of mind .
