Anne Deane Berman (* 1963 as Anne Deane ) is an American composer , multimedia artist and music teacher.

biography

Deane studied music at Oberlin College (1981–85) and at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) (1991–95). From 1998 to 2001, she was Associate Director of the Digital Media Innovation Program , a partnership between the University of California and California industry. From 2001 to 2003 she was an assistant professor of music and a member of the Virtual Reality Applications Center at Iowa State University . From 2004–05 she taught computer music and music theory at the University of British Columbia , after which she worked at the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging at the University of California, Los Angeles . From 2007-08 she was the academic coordinator of the UCSB's Technology Management Program . In 2010, she and her husband Steve Berman founded Divigations , a robotics, applied science, and music learning laboratory.

Deane has been active as a composer since 1985. In addition to classical music for traditional and electroacoustic / electronic instruments, she composed music for games, interactive and multimedia applications and installations. Her interest in multimedia live performances led to the Virtual Opera , a sensor-controlled light and sound production. Her works have been performed at international festivals and on the radio and recorded on CD.
