Anne Gibson, Baroness Gibson of Market Lawn

Anne Gibson, Baroness Gibson of Market Rasen , OBE ( December 10, 1940 - April 20, 2018 ) was a British trade unionist and author of several papers on industrial law.

Family and title

Gibson was born to Harry Tasker and his wife Jessie Roberts. She herself married John Donald Gibson on April 23, 1962. From this marriage, which was divorced in 1985, a daughter was born. Since October 8, 1988 she was married to John Bartell, who brought a daughter into the marriage. On May 9, 2000, she was promoted to the nobility as Baroness Gibson of Market Rasen , of Market Rasen in the County of Lincoln , as a Life Peeress .

Education and further career

Gibson received her education at Caistor Grammar School . This was followed by studies at Chelmsford College of Further Education and at the University of Essex , where she graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration. From 1956 to 1959 she worked as a secretary and then until 1966 as a bank cashier. From 1966 to 1970 she was responsible for the local chapter Saffron Walden the Labor Party operates. Between 1976 and 1977 she was with House Magazine . From 1977 to 1987 she worked for the trade union confederation Trades Union Congress (TUC) and from 1987 to 2000 she was national secretary of the union Manufacturing Science and Finance (MSF). From 1989 to 2000 she was a member of the TUC committee and from 1991 to 1998 in the Equal Opportunities Commission . From 1993 to 1996 she was part of the Department of Employment Advisory Group for Older Workers and from 1996 to 2000 the Health and Safety Commission . Most recently she was a member of the AMICUS union and the Emily Pankhurst Trust .

From 1996 to 2001 she was chair of the Committee on Violence at Work of the European Union. She was also a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Commission . She was also a member of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work . From 2004 to 2008 she was President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA).

Awards and memberships

In 1998 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire . In 2001 she received the Distinguished Service Award for her work in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) . She was also Honorary President of the 2168 (Yeadon) Squadron, Air Training Corps .
