Annegret Hahn studied theater studies in Leipzig and worked after her training at several theaters as a dramaturge and director. In 2001 she took over the management of the Thalia Theater Halle . In 2005 she directed the Handel Festival with the world premiere of Durs Grünbeins Vom Schnee or Descartes in Germany , followed by the next world premiere in 2006 with the production of Paradise Lost by John Milton .

The GDR premiere of Heiner Müller's Philoctetes was staged by Annegret Hahn. In his biography, the light artist Gert Hof presented himself as the first performer of this piece. This claim and his partially exaggerated or falsified past as a Stasi victim and dissident could be demonstrably refuted.
