Annie Chapelier has appointed Gérard Unterstaehrer, a graduate of the École polytechnique , Ingénieur Général de l'Armement , as a substitute candidate ( suppléant ) for her mandate in the National Assembly .

At first, Chapelier was a member of the organization Citoyenneté, action, participation pour le xxie siècle (Cap21). In the 2017 elections to the National Assembly , she ran for La République en marche in the 4th constituency of Gard (east of the city of Alès ) . The previous MP Fabrice Verdier , who ran for the Socialist Party , was eliminated in the first ballot. In the second ballot she was elected with a lead of 6000 votes over the candidate of the Front National party , Brigitte Roulaud.

In January 2020 Annie Chapelier resigned from the LREM party, which she described as “a movement without a down-to-earth approach, without understanding for the different parts of the country” and as a party of “apparatchiks, the small, more or less self-appointed leaders” who joined the “masses of members who in their eyes are insignificant feel superior and of whom they demand to blindly follow and obey them ”and who accuse them of doing nothing about the climate emergency. They still remained some time in the Group of LREM within the Apparentement (a kind of list connection ) until the group Écologie Démocratie Solidarity joined when it was founded in May 2020th

In April 2020, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic , she decided to work as an anesthesia nurse at the Nîmes hospital .
