Annie Genevard (born September 7, 1956 in Audincourt , Doubs department ) is a French politician ( UMP , Les Républicains ). She has been a member of the National Assembly since 2012 and its Vice-President since 2017.

Genevard is the daughter of former UMP MP Irène Tharin . She is a French teacher by profession and has taught at a lycée . In 1995 she was elected deputy mayor of the small town of Morteau ( Doubs department ) not far from the Swiss border, and in 2002 she became mayor herself. In the regional elections in 2004, she also moved into the regional council of the Franche-Comté region , where she was chairman of the UMP parliamentary group and allied center-right parties from 2011 until her departure the following year .

In 2012 Genevard ran in the parliamentary elections in the fifth constituency of the Doubs department and was elected to the National Assembly with 62.5% of the votes in the second ballot. She was able to defend her seat in the 2017 parliamentary election. In November 2017 she was elected Vice-President of the National Assembly. From December 2017 to October 2019 she was also General Secretary of the Républicains under the chairman Laurent Wauquiez .

The MP is the holder of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Ordre des Palmes Académiques . She is also a member of the Legion of Honor in the knight class.
