At a stop in Egypt on 28 December 2018 Giza ( Egypt ) at least three were Vietnamese tourists and a local bus driver killed.

The attack took place on Maryouttija Street ( Mariottia Corridor ) in the Al Haram district around six kilometers from the Giza pyramids . The act was carried out by the explosion of an unconventional explosive device (IED) hidden in a wall . In addition to the travel guide, ten other Vietnamese fellow travelers were seriously injured. It is unknown who was behind the attack and who it was aimed at.

On December 29, 2018, the security forces announced that they had killed 14 suspected terrorists in two raids in Madinat al-Sadis min Uktubar (city of October 6) , 16 more terrorists died in a residential complex west of Cairo and 10 more terrorists in al -Arish in the north of the Sinai Peninsula . Large amounts of ammunition , weapons and self-made explosives were found in the hiding places . According to a statement by the Ministry of the Interior, preparations were made for militant attacks on government and tourism institutions, the army and police, as well as on Christian churches.

Previous attacks

Previously, on November 2, 2018, there had been an attack on Coptic pilgrims in the province of Al-Minya , killing at least seven travelers. At least two people were killed in attacks on March 23, 2018, this time in Alexandria .

Effects

Egyptian authorities and travel companies fear negative effects on local tourism industries. The Foreign Office issued a partial travel warning.
