Career

Adamson belonged to the youth division of the first division AFC Sunderland and signed a professional contract in November 1965 at the age of 17. In 1966 he stood at the side of players like Colin Todd , Colin Suggett , Bobby Kerr and Billy Hughes in the final of the FA Youth Cup , despite a 2-1 first leg success they missed by a 4-1 defeat in the second leg in Highbury against the Arsenal FC won the title. Adamson, who was mainly employed as a full-back, was not signed by Sunderland beyond the end of the season and Luton Town's coach George Martinguided him and his teammate Brian Johnson to the fourth division club . As a substitute behind Bobby Thomson and Fred Jardine , it took until April 1967 before he came to two missions against Port Vale and Southend United .

At the end of the season he returned to the northeast of England and joined the fourth division rivals Hartlepools United . There he only came in early September in a home game against AFC Rochdale (final score 1: 1) to train and left the club before the end of the year. The rest of the 1967/68 season he played alongside his older brother Keith at Scarborough FC in the Midland League , for which he played 13 competitive games during the season. After a brief stint at South Shields FC , he joined Murton Colliery Welfare in the Wearside League , for which he played for twelve years. He earned his living in the upholstery business .
