The connecting railway Kaliwerk Bernterode was a single-track connecting freight railway in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . It branches off the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden in Bernterode and leads to the Bernterode potash plant in the Bernterode / Schacht district.
course
The approximately 1.6 km long route leads west of the Bernterode train station (km 127.59) in an arc in a northerly direction from the Halle-Kasseler-Bahn. Shortly after the junction, it crossed the road to Bernterode as well as the former Reichsstraße 80 and today's Landesstraße 3080. After a straight route, the railway ended at the potash works station.
history
Presumably with the construction of the potash plant at the beginning of the 20th century, the railway line to the plant premises was also planned. In 1911, the previous stop at Bernterode was expanded into a train station and the siding was integrated. In 1931, the potash plant was stopped and a few years later it was converted into an army ammunition plant, so the rail connection was continued. In July 1945 an ammunition train parked at the works station exploded and large parts of the station and the works were destroyed. It is not known when the railway line was abandoned and rebuilt.
