Ansgar Wallenhorst

Ansgar Wallenhorst (* 1967 in Walsum ) is a German church musician, concert organist and theologian.

He studied with Günther Kaunzinger at the Würzburg University of Music , where he graduated in 1991 with the Church Music A diploma. In 1993 he was awarded the master class diploma. Further improvisation studies led him to Paris to Thierry Escaich , Olivier Latry and Jean Guillou . Then he studied theology and philosophy in Münster and Paris. Since 1998 he has been cantor at St. Peter and Paul in Ratingen . From 1998 to 2002 he was a lecturer in liturgical organ playing at the Musikhochschule Dortmund and initiator of the “Open Organ Class for Interpretation, Improvisation and Analysis” in the Audimax of the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1999 he was the second prize winner at the 3ème Concours d'orgue de la Ville de Paris, and in 2000 he received the Grand Prix at the 43rd International Improvisation Competition in Haarlem. Wallenhorst has released numerous CDs with improvisations and has extensive concert and guest lecturing activities in Europe and the USA.
