Ballenhaus residence

The Ansitz Ballenhaus (sometimes also written Ballhaus ) is located in the municipality of Matrei am Brenner in the Innsbruck-Land district of Tyrol (Brenner Strasse 60).
History of the residence
Matrei is through since Roman times existing road junction according to Innsbruck or after Hall marked. This resulted in the structural structure of the market as a street settlement with inns and craft shops lined up along the street, to which the Ballenhaus residence also belongs. After the great fire of 1468, the residence was built in 1471 by Augustin Heyerling (Heuerling) in the Gothic style ; in the process, it was expanded to include a neighboring house, as can be seen from the kink in the front wall. At that time the residence was the Ballhaus or Ballenhaus , where merchandise was offered for sale. The Heuerlings were a respected family who came into possession through lucrative freighting. In the 16th and 17th centuries the residence was used as the town hall of Matrei.

On the ground floor of the mansion there is a corridor with a ribbed vault with two massive Gothic round pillars. In the rear building there is a two-storey staircase, there is an outside staircase, galleries and a wall fresco from 1471. The latter was added in the 18th century and again around 1945. The picture shows two coat of arms tartschen , of which the left is the coat of arms of the Heuerling, this is held by a lady dressed in Burgundian costume from the late 15th century. The following inscription has been preserved from the time of its creation: Hoc opus testudinum completum est sub anno MCCCCLXXI die Jovis prima Mensis Septembris. Next to the house there is also the Matrei scale, which was an important instrument for traders in the past.
Today the Gasthaus Zur Uhr is located in the building . The house is owned by the Karl Weiss family.
