Anson T. Hemingway
Anson Tyler Hemingway (born August 26, 1844 in East Plymouth , Connecticut , † October 27, 1926 in Oak Park , Illinois ) was a Northern officer in the American Civil War and later a businessman.
Hemingway served as a soldier in the Union Army and made it up to First Lieutenant . Among other things, he took part in the Battle of Vicksburg . After the Civil War, he attended Wheaton College and then became general secretary of the YMCA in Chicago . He made wealth as a real estate agent in Oak Park .
He married on August 27, 1867 Adelaide Edmonds (born August 17, 1841, † February 5, 1923), whom he had met while studying. The couple had four sons and two daughters. He was the father of the medical doctor Clarence Hemingway and the grandfather of the writer Ernest Hemingway .
